About the course
The Certified Security Risk Manager (CSRM®) course is an advanced programme for professionals who manage organisation-wide security risks. Taught by experienced practitioners, it develops the skills needed to assess threats, design proportionate security measures, and support informed decision making across a range of sectors.
Gain an Ofqual-regulated, nationally recognised Level 5 qualification through SFJ Awards. The course is developed and delivered by senior security and risk professionals with backgrounds in policing, military and corporate environments, ensuring the learning is practical, credible and grounded in real-world application.

Delivery & assessment
How it's delivered
The in-person course is delivered over 5 consecutive days, providing a focused and immersive learning experience. This is followed by a period of supported self-study, with guidance from a dedicated tutor to help embed learning in practice.
The distance learning option offers greater flexibility and is typically completed over 3 to 6 months. You will have up to 12 months to complete the programme if required, allowing you to balance study with professional commitments while maintaining the same high standard throughout.
How it's assessed
Learners are required to complete 4 assignments, each requiring between 3,000 and 5,000 words, designed to demonstrate depth of understanding and practical application across the full security risk management process.
Ongoing assessment feedback and support is provided throughout the course.

A highly experienced senior policing leader with over 30 years of service, Jonathan brings exceptional depth of expertise in leading complex, high-risk operations at both strategic and tactical levels. His career has been defined by operating in demanding environments where effective leadership, clear decision-making and resilience under pressure are essential.
With over 30 years of experience in law enforcement, Roger is an experienced police officer specialising in hostage negotiation and crisis management. He has honed his expertise as both a Hostage Negotiator and a Hostage Negotiator Trainer, managing high-stress situations to enhance operational outcomes.
Recognition & certification
Awarded by SFJ Awards and regulated by Ofqual, successful completion leads to the Level 5 Security Risk Management Practitioner qualification, alongside the Certified Security Risk Manager (CSRM®) certificate from Oakwood.
Learners attending the in-person course are also awarded the endorsed Level 5 Certificate in Security and Resilience, issued by Skills and Education Group through the Quality Licence Scheme, at the end of the five-day programme.
This course is eligible for ELCAS funding, making it accessible to serving and former members of the UK Armed Forces — a nationally recognised pathway into security risk management roles across corporate, public sector and critical national infrastructure environments.
